In the 58 th U.S.presidential election in 2016,one particular candidate has attracted a lot of attention since the election, his name is Donald Trump. At the beginning of the election,Trump raised hot questions with a lot of extreme remarks. His astonishing remarks on immigration and border issues have surprised everyone. But it is that surprising candidate in the election who went all the way to the end and finally became the 45 th president of the United States. What are the characteristics of Trump's political rhetoric? This is the main question to be explored in this thesis. This thesis selects Trump's ten campaign speech in the election period as the research text, and used personal pronouns "they" and "we" as the starting point, through content analysis and discourse analysis, trying to figure out the special features of Trump's political rhetoric. The study found that Trump mainly used "we" and "they" these two kinds of personal pronouns to construct the image of others,in order to obtain the "sympathy" and "antithesis" of audience. In his rhetoric,"they" can be divided into three categories, these three categories "they" are the culprit of the crisis in the United States."We" can also be divided into three categories."Our" problems are because of "them","we" are at risk.Trump's rhetoric has changed significantly in general election.During this period,Trump used "we" to get audience's "sympathy".Trump's rhetorical changes in general election are manifested in immigration and border issues. From the rhetoric of discrimination and exclusion,to the rhetoric of convergence and restraint in general election,Trump's rhetoric has reached a transition from hard to softening. To understand Trump's political rhetoric,it is necessary to see the essence through these phenomena. In the last part of the article, the author tries to explore the motives and reasons of Trump's political rhetoric, and finally summarizes five factors that affect his political rhetoric.
