The Research Of Conservation And Restoration Of Painted Potteries Excavated In Chengyangcheng Site Of Chu Tombs Of The Warring States Period,Xinyang City

In this paper,we focused on the research of the damage and preservation status painted potteries excavated in Chengyangcheng site of Chu state tombs of the warring states period,Xinyang city.Ion chromatography was applied to detect and analyse the soil environment of the tombs.And portable X fluorescence analysis,x fluorescence spectra analysis,infrared spectroscopy analysis and Raman spectroscopy were applied to analyze mineral pigments from the surface of potteries and metal coating below pigments.The main composition from the soil excavated the site were identified and proved to be calcium salt by ion chromatography.Also by portable X fluorescence analysis and Raman spectroscopy,we have known that red pigments of painted potteries from Chengyangcheng site Xinyang city were cinnabar(HgS)and haematite(ochre Fe2O3),and yellow pigments were goethite(yellow ochre Fe2O3.xH2O).Through the X fluorescence spectra analysis and infrared spectroscopy analysis of the metal coating of painted potteries from No.8 tomb,we have known that No.8 tomb' potteries were tin coated pottery and coated pottery and No.18 tomb's potteries were painted potteries.For painted potteries from No.8 tomb and No.18 tomb,there were some main damage:painting peel off;fall down;detachment of poly chrome layers,fading and colour changing;dirt covering;exfoliation,crack,fracture and encrustation on the surface.Through accelerate aging experiments in the laboratory and scientific test,the emulsion type stabilizer Primal SF029 was selected to consolidate the painting layers and epoxy resin WEICON Easy-Mix S50 was used to glue pottery fragments.In accordance with the principle of conservation and restoration,the excavated painted pottery was protected and restored.Restoration and conservation strictly followed the restoration procedures of pottery painted cultural relics.This paper mainly illustrated from five aspects:the basic information of excavated cultural relics,the storage condition investigation and analysis of painted potteries,the scientific detection and analysis of cultural relics,restoration and conservation,and typical cases introduction.The process of restoration and preservation included six aspects:taking photos for recording,damage investigation,cleaning surface,consolidate painted layers,gluing pottery fragments,restoration and conservation.
