Study Of Mei Guangdi's Literary View

Mei Guangdi was the important initiator of the Hsueh-heng School;this cultural identity made him stood on the opposite side of the New Culture Movement.Due to his cultural propositions,Mei Guangdi's identity was connected with two key words: the new humanist and the cultural conservatives.This paper was based on the conclusion of the previous research and focused on two key words “moral principles” and “cultural conservatism” to discuss about the unique literary view of Mei Guangdi.The whole paper was divided into the following parts:The introduction mainly introduced the research significance of the literary view of Mei Guangdi,the current academe's research status on this topic.The first chapter mainly discussed about the supported theoretical resources at the back of the formation of Mei Guangdi's literary view.The Confucian humanistic connotations of Mei Guangdi made him persisted in the Confucianism and showed his strong cultural standard consciousness;while the Irving Babbitt theory's worship to Confucius and the application to the Confucianism of the theory became the reasons for Mei Guangdi's approach to him.The second chapter took “moral principles” as the key word.The first part talked about Mei Guangdi's comprehension to the essence of art,he insisted on the theory that literary is beauty and kind from beginning to end;The second part discussed about Mei Guangdi's comprehension to literary function theory,he always considered that literature was born for the human,literature conveyed the eternal doctrine while the doctrine was related with the morality;The third part talked about the literary aesthetics ideality of Mei Guangdi,the philosophical foundation of the this literary ideal was doctrine of the Mean.This ideal emphasized that literary creation need to reach the neutral beauty of “joyous but not indecent,mournful but not distressing”;the literary criticism need to persist in the impartial and objective,upright standpoint.The third chapter mainly discussed about the conservatism of Mei Guangdi in all kinds of arguments.The “arguments between Hu Shi and Mei Guangdi” expanded to the “arguments between the Hsueh-heng School and the New Culture School”,to discuss the relevant matters about old and new poems,the evolutionism,the elite and public during the discussion.Mei Guangdi,as a cultural conservatism,put forward his own opinion in the may fourth new cultural movement.His opinion has a certain historical significance.And his achievements and limitations,constitute an integral part of modern literature historical culture.Inspected the value of his literary view again and pointed out his deficiencies,was thought-provoking.
