Panzhi is an ancient fingertip artcraft based on the variety of paper color and paper's unique texture,using a Chinese traditional technique called "Pan Kou",to turn a piece of paper into a piece of handicrafts.People will cut the redundant paper into various shapes,and then use the toothpick,sticks and other handicraft tools,using the techniques called "Roll","Stick ","Pinch","Press","Fold","Twist","Coil","Cut" and "Join" to complete a lot of delicate Artcrafts.Because of the lack of Paper Coiling's successor,the existence of Paper Coiling in China is rarely known by people.Yan Meijuan in Hangzhou is the only craftsman who master this traditional technique."Inch of paper,coiling for inheriting" planed as a cultural documentary,I follow Yan Meijuan for filming for half a year since autumn of 2017.The documentary focusd on Yan Meijuan's coiling technique and her experience of inheriting this cultural heritage.Using a large number of realistic shoots to record joys and sorrows of Yan's life in inheriting.At the same time,the author hopes that this documentary can let the audience to understand this Chinese traditional handicraft gradually.It is expected that the Paper Coiling can carry forward in younger generation,instead of annihilated by the mighty torrent of time.
