The study of the translation of children's literature has long been neglected by either theorists or practitioners. There have been several studies on literature translation guided by dialogism so far. However, dialogic analysis of the translation of children's stories is still inadequate. This thesis answers the following questions:(1)Why is Bakhtin's dialogism selected to explain the current study of translation?(2)What kinds of dialogues are constructed in the process of the translation of The Secret Garden?(3)What suggestions can be recommended for the translation of children's literature? The thesis firstly analyzes the feasibility of applying dialogism to the study of translation.Secondly,it makes a dialogic analysis of the translation of The Secret Garden and testifies how the dialogism works. Finally,it figures out some suggestions for future translation of children's literature. This thesis has the following findings.(1)The nature of translation is dialogic. The process of translation can be regarded as a chorus of dialogues among the author, the translator, the reader and the text.Studying translation under the guidance of dialogism is practicable.(2)This thesis constructs a research framework which is concerned with four dialogic relations:the dialogue between the translator and the author, the dialogue between the translator and the target readers, the dialogue between the target text and the readers and the dialogue between the Chinese and European culture.(3)There are some suggestions for the translation of children's literature. The translated text should be faithful to the original one and in its integrity. The language should be normative, natural, coherent, vivid, beautiful and childlike.
