The Fall of Troy carries on the typical writing style of Peter Ackroyd(1949-).He treats a city with a long history as a bridge to connect the past and present.So the city's locality can get the full expression.The Fall of Troy was based on a historical event and took the ancient city,Troy as the background.It told a story that Obermann,a German archaeologist tried so hard to prove the authenticity of mythology and legendary heroes in Homer's Iliad by excavating on the ancient Troy's relics.He fancied a mysterious world which was full of lies,implementing a huge influence on the finding and excavation of Troy.Even though,at last all the fancies and lies were disclosed and Obermann lost his own life,while all the impacts he made on Troy didn't disappear.The thesis will analyze the embodiment of magic realism in this book from the following three aspects.Firstly,author interweaved real plots and imaginary scenes together,with numerous mythologies inserted to create a magic and mysterious space.Secondly,author focused on the description of mythological archetypes to make those characters more full and mysterious,and meanwhile redefined the meanings of those mythological archetypes.Thirdly,through the application of vast fantastic symbols,it further increased the element of mystery and magic on this city.The main body of this thesis includes three parts.In the first part,it describes construction of Troy's magic space which includes two aspects,the interweaving between imaginary and real space as well as time circuity in Troy's magic space.The second part demonstrates the employment of mythological archetypes which mainly derived from Greek mythologies and Bible.It indicates the warning and edificatory influences of those mythological archetypes on people nowadays.The third one will state the vast symbols from the aspects of places and animals.The conclusion of this thesis is that through the application of magic realistic methods,the plain historical facts are endowed with the sense of mystery and magic color which inspire the passion and enthusiasm of people on exploring their national and historical specialties.
