The paper elaborates about the aria “Where Are You,honglian” by Qin Xiaosheng, the hero in the opera “The Ballad of Canal”.In Chapter One,three defects of Wang Hongwei's singing the aria have been boldly proposed based on learning from the predecessors' singing experience after scientific studies of Wang Hongwei's singing techniques and stage performances have been conducted. The first defect is that there are some flaws in the articulation of special emotion expression for individual words in term of singing. The second defect is that the performance rhythm of some sections is not good and satisfactory. And the last defect is that the control over the expression of the ups and downs of the hero's inner emotions is far from perfection. In Chapter Two,some different opinions from Wang Hongwei's have been proposed based on the above three points.First of all,the concept of dielectric vowel, the theory of thirteen rhymes and the articulation methods for expressing special emotions in the Chinese traditional operas have been discussed from the perspective of articulation.Next, the importance of performance rhythm during performance has been emphasized, and performance rhythm should be harmonized and consistent with plot, music and body language.Lastly,it has been proved that the organic combination of inner experience and external manifestation should be attached great importance in handling the changes of a role's inner experience. In Chapter Three, these three points of view have been put into performance practicing during a graduation concert with the said theory being successfully applied, which have been unanimously recognized and praised by the audience and peers at the scene.Art practice has been applied to test the correctness of theory and facilitate the combination of theory with stage performance to derive correct theoretical achievements.
