When the Chinese ancient drama became mature is an extremely important issue in thehistory of development of Chinese drama.Mr.Wang Guowei proposed this academic topic for the first time in his “History of Song and Yuan Drama”.What he called “real drama” or “truth drama” is mature or formed drama explained by the later drama historians. There should be two contexts for the study of the maturity of Chinese drama. The first context is the dramatic art itself, that is,whether the art performance technology is mature, such as singing, reading, making, and playing techniques of the actors in the stage performance. The maturity of the technology is only the basic level. The second one is the context of world drama history. It refers to the maturity of Chinese drama in the history of drama. This kind of maturity should be above the maturity of technology and it belongs to a higher level.Chinese drama is an important part of the world's dramatic art history.Only when Chinese opera is included in the history of world drama, can it be scientific in the study of drama history. This thesis compares Chinese drama with the world's earliest mature drama, namely the ancient Greek dramas from the field of the context of the world drama history. It establishes the criteria for drama maturity, and criticizes academic views critically to make sure when Chinese drama became mature.Compared with ancient Greek dramas and Indian Vatican dramas,Chinese dramas became mature relatively late, and as late as a thousand years later,it is necessary to study in depth the reasons of lateness in maturity. The paper is mainly divided into five parts.Introduction briefly describes the main content of the thesis, the value of the topic, the current situation of the topic selected in this thesis, and comb the related concepts.Chapter One establishes the standard of drama maturity from the perspective of comparative drama.Mr.Wang Guowei proposed that the endorsement is a necessary condition for the maturity of the drama. After research, this is not the case. The endorsement is only a common expression of poetry, novels, and drama. It is notnecessary for thematurity of the drama. The judgment of drama maturity standards needs to start with the essential characteristics. The essential characteristics of the drama should be behavioral imitation. The maturity of the drama must be based on script retention as a criterion for judgment.Chapter Two critically summarizes different perspectives on the time of maturity of Chinese ancient drama.Judged by the drama maturity criteria, the dramas that can not reach the standard should not be considered as mature dramas.Chapter Three compares the ancient Greek dramas and ancient Indian dramas with the Yuan Zaju, and concludes that the Yuan Zaju is a symbol of the maturity of Chinese ancient dramas. It is necessary to begin with the drama of the Yuan Dynasty.Chapter Four discusses the reasons of the lateness of Chinese drama.Compared with ancient Greece and ancient India,Chinese literature has its own uniqueness.Confucian culture has an important influence on the development of Chinese drama. The addition of "genius" literature during the abolition of the imperial examination system greatly improved the literary value of the drama.
