General psychology,which is an introductory course for college students majoring in Psychology,is the basic subject of psychology.The students who major in the psychology at the university can't study the course without the textbooks of general psychology.There are more research about general psychology textbooks in foreign compared with China.The improvement of the quality of textbooks has a positive significance for the research of psychology teaching and the construction of disciplines,which could promote the development of Psychology.However,the research about the textbooks relates to the improvement of the quality of textbooks.Firstly,in oder to present situation of the editors,revise,space length and type of organization in general psychology textbooks,we takes content analysis to made a analysis of the 38 titles of general psychology textbooks in the dimension which established before the study.we hope that put forward some suggestions on compiling textbooks according to the result.Then in order to made a full description of the topical coverage of the textbooks and explain the changes of the topical coverage in textbooks for different period.we try to analyse the percentage topical coverage of the textbooks and the changes of the percentage topical coverage.In this research,the main conclusions are as follows:(1)After reform and opening up,the number of writers and editors of the general psychologyTextbook showed an upward trend.the revision of textbooks has been paid attention to,however,it should be improved compared with the revision of textbooks in foreign.(2)The normative of type of organization of general psychology textbooks should be reinforced.The foreword,preface,revision and reference of textbooks should be listed normative.The number of references and rencency of references should be increased.The importance of pedagogical aids present,chapter summarize,outline,getting started and extended reading should be paid attention to.In order to improve teaching effect and enrich the content of textbooks,the number of figures,tables,cartoons,Boxes and photos in textbooks should be increased.(3)The topical coverage allocation and the changes of percentage topical coverage allocation in general psychology books reflect the psychology research trend.There are not many applications area content in textbooks,however,considered the nature and value of the subject,the areas of application should be presented in textbooks.(4)There is some unsatisfaction of content system in textbooks,which should be resolved in the next textbook revision.
