Having been a teacher for about 15 years in a residential high school, the author has realised in the daily working practice that senior high school students actually are in a very special growing phase, turning adults. And in a residential school, the teacher-student relationship is ever so important.what's more,as independence is necessary in a residential school,self-development in study is challenging. So academic help seeking seems essential if one wants to get good academic results.A lot of studies have been carried out on the relationship between teacher-student relationship and academic help seeking. But most of them are focused on pupils, middle school students and undergraduates.Few are aimed at students in a residential senior high school. So the author intends to do a study on the relationship between teacher-student relationship and academic help seeking in the residential senior high school. The author selected a questionnaire by zhang Lei to measure the teacher-student relationship, and a questionnaire by Li Xiaodong to measure the academic help seeking. After collecting the statistics, analyses are carried out.And results are as follows:(1)In the residential senior high school, the teacher-student relationship is generally positive and harmonious.(2)The difference between boys and girls lies in the conflict dimension.Boys show more conflict. There are big differences among grades. The lower grades show more intimacy and attachment while the higher grades show more avoidance and conflict in the teacher-student relationship.Students at lower academic levels show more conflict.(3)Generally,students prefer instrumental help seeking and they prefer to turn to peers for help.(4)Girls tend to seek academic help from the peers.Instrumental help seeking goes more to teachers for students of lower grades.Students at lower academic level tend to avoid help seeking or prefer executive help seeking.(5)In the residential senior high school,teacher-student relationship can predict academic help seeking to a large degree.
