The Study Of Chinese Vocabulary Used In Textbooks For Higher Education Institutions

In this research we selected the vocabulary part of the Chinese textbook “Chinese for university”(first,second volumes)of Thailand as the research object,and compare with the vocabulary of the new HSK “International Chinese standards”.These two Chinese textbooks have been widely used in higher education written by “Institute of Asian Studies Chulalongkorn University”,Thai author.There is,however,study about the impact of these textbooks.The aim of research is comprehensive study on these books.The vocabulary will be analyzed specific skills and categorized according to Chinese Proficiency Test(HSK).Also,the number of the vocabulary will be reported.The total number of the vocabulary is 1106 words.They can be separated into two groups,First of all vocabulary for the Chinese new HSK proficiency tests and for general everyday uses.There are 599 words in the former group.The percentage of the vocabulary in this group is about 13 percent from 5000 words of standard HSK test.A quarter of them is useful for Chinese new HSK level 4 and level 5.These vocabularies mostly contain nouns,verbs and adjectives.The latter are irrelevant to HSK proficiency tests which have about 507 words.Almost of phrases and expressions in this group are used for expressing the feelings,while vocabularies are about Thai and Chinese cultures.During analysis of these two textbooks,we have found they could not be properly useful for the preparation of the HSK test but just for general everyday uses.Since the vocabularies are not sufficient for the HSK test.They are mainly for daily routines and more relatively to Thai and Chinese cultures.If the authors would like to public it as textbooks for HSK preparation,it is essential to have the more additional HSK vocabularies.
