This is a translation report on Medecins Sans Frontieres International Activity Report 2015 published by the international non-profit medical organization in the year of 2016.There is no Chinese version available of this activity report,so the writer considers it necessary to translate it into Chinese for the purpose of enabling more individuals in China who are interested in taking part in internationally voluntary activities to gain a better understanding of the organization and to actively participate in the humanitarian programmes launched by Medecins Sans Frontieres. This translation report adopts Catford's Translation Shifts Theory as the guiding theory.Catford points out that there exist two kinds of shifts—level shifts and category shifts.Level shifts occur between grammar and lexis in different languages.Category shifts mainly contain four shifts:structural shifts, class shifts, rank shifts and intra-system shifts. On the basis of careful analysis, the translator finds that it is essential to conduct proper shifts on and below the level of sentence with the aim of producing a relatively smooth version. Therefore, the translator employs Catford's Translation Shifts Theory to translate Medecins Sans Frontieres International Activity Report 2015 during the translation process and conducts shifts from the aspects of level, structure, class and rank.Under the guidance of Catford's Translation Shifts Theory, the thesis probes into the application of various translation methods in specific examples from the perspective of level, structure, class and rank.It is hoped that the translation of this activity report will enable more individuals to pay close attention to Medecins Sans Frontieres and humanitarian activities and meanwhile provide some referential value for the translation of documents of similar types guided by Catford's Translation Shifts Theory.
