Need is an old and important topic.Maslow's theory of hierarchy of needs has been a long-standing theoretical guidance in the past 100 years.However,the structure of Maslow's needs was not from data analysis.It is valid to consider that the needs' structure of people has changed with the great changes of the times,and the needs of different behaviors are different.Smartphone usage is now a ubiquitous phenomenon,but little is known about what types of psychological needs are met by which smartphones.This study combined grounded theory approach with lexical matching and time series method to build a model of psychological needs of smartphone users.Finally,the change trend of HUAWEI phone users' psychological needs was analyzed.In study 1,using the grounded theory approach,semi-structured in-depth interviews was conducted to identify types of needs associated with smartphone usage.Substantive and theoretical coding of the data from the interviews as well as data from samples of smartphone reviews yielded seven types of psychological needs smartphone users had:utilitarian,price,security,hedonic,symbol,social,and cognitive needs.In study 2,first,the result of open coding in the substantive coding was used as the seed words.Then,Word2Vec and artificial extension were used to expand the needs thesaurus.Finally,lexical matching was used to automatically provide each review with multiple positive and negative labels of the types of needs mentioned and the smartphones in JINGDONG were analyzed for the different types of needs they satisfied.In study 3,first,HUAWEI smartphones' reviews and related information were crawled from Vmail.Second,multiple positive and negative labels of each review was labeled.Then,a comparison between HUAWEI phones in Vmail and HUAWEI phones in JINGDONG was carried out.Finally,the psychological needs change trend of smartphone with different price range was analyzed by time series method.In sum,the present study drew the following conclusions:1)The model of psychological needs of mobile phone users included utilitarian,price,security,hedonic,symbol,social,and cognitive needs.2)Performance superiority,aesthetics and low-price needs were three needs that users were most concerned about.3)As the time of the market went on,the needs had a certain stability.Low end machine as well as middle and low end machine had higher low-price and higher cost-effective needs,high end machine as well as super high-end machine had higher show off need.And unique need only appeared in super high-end machine.
