A Cultural Heritage Study Of Longquan,Zhejiang Province From The Perspectives Of Cultural Heritage Discourse And Cultural Memory

The "Cultural Heritage Fever" booms worldwide recently.So does Chinese cultural heritage industry.Longquan of Zhejiang Province was listed as a National Historical and Cultural City by the State Council in July 2017.Based on western cultural heritage studies and Chinese scholars' studies on Zongci culture and Lixiang culture,this thesis tries to trace the cultural meanings of Longquan heritage from the perspectives of cultural heritage discourse and cultural memory by means of ethnography and critical discourse analysis(CDA).This research is intended to recover the indigenous cultural meaning and spirit of local places and facilitate local government in restoring,utilizing and inheriting cultural heritages.It raises three research questions in Introduction:1).Cultural heritage discourses of Longquan;2).Cultural memories and their meanings to Longquan cultural heritages;3).Cultural heritage practices in Longquan.To answer them,Chapter One introduces the theoretical framework of discourse analysis,cultural heritage and cultural memory.Chapter Two uses CDA to analyze cultural heritage discourses of Longquan,pointing out that indigenous discourses are complementary to authorized discourses and should be respected.Chapter Three does ethnographic narratives on historic sites such as He's Family Ancestral Temple and Yongfu Society to show the importance of cultural memory,such as Zongci and Lixiang culture in community life and heritage protection.Chapter Four delves into foreign and domestic cultural heritage practices and touches upon Longquan governmental plans and indigenous opinions and suggestions on its future cultural heritage development.The final part concludes with the vital roles cultural heritage play in the sustainable development of a society and a community and tries to provide an alternative way to cultural heritage practice and some viable suggestions.Limitations of this study are specified,and future research directions of cultural heritage are suggested.
