Most previous researches done on the topic of translation of historical texts mainly focused on the authenticity of historical facts, namely, accurate translation of terminology. However, the translation of literariness, which is also a prominent feature of most historical texts,is always ignored or neglected. It is of significant importance that due attention be paid to translating literariness. To do so,it is a good choice to start with A History of the English-Speaking Peoples. This great history book boasts both a faithful record of historical facts and its exquisite mastery of language, the latter of which can be observed in multiple layers in this monumental work of Winston Churchill. This research seeks to analyze the general literary characteristics of such texts by stylistic analysis, based on the case studies of this extraordinary example, and to work out corresponding solutions so as to reproduce the literariness of historical texts.Historical texts feature distinctive literary traits at all phonological, lexical, syntactic and textual levels;wherefore, their translations should carefully and vigorously deal with all traits and reproduce the brilliance of the original texts.Hopefully, this translation and research will benefit future practices of and researches on the similar topic.
