Representation Of Literariness In The Translation On Historical Texts

This report is based on the translation of Chapter I of a historical text named KL: A History of the Nazi Concentration Camps,which falls into the category of expressive text with various rhetorical devices,showing distinct feature of literariness.Euphemism and alliteration are the two rhetorical devices which mainly present literariness of the text,the translation of which will be discussed with specific cases.As for the translation of euphemisms,four-character structure and Chinese idioms are employed to convey the original content faithfully and maintain the degree of euphemism.As for the translation of alliteration,Chinese four-character structure and Chinese rhyme,as well as the techniques of the adjustment of word order and conversion of word classes are employed.The understanding of literariness in historical texts has been deepened through the translation practice.It is hoped that the relevant analysis on the representation of literariness in this report will have some referential values to the translation of other historical texts.
