Research Of The Western Documentary Print

Documentary printmaking is a kind of printmaking with practical application value and an important method for data logging which has been applied in the western society from the birth of printmaking until now.Due to the creative technologies and artistic characteristics of printmaking,it becomes a kind of tool used by many artists for independent expression and independent creation,and moreover,due to replicability and easy popularization of printmaking,the information that artists tend to express can be spread to the broader masses.Hence,printmaking plays a major role in the western society,many artists once carried out the artistic creation in the form of printmaking.Printmaking plays an important part in various fields of science such as cartography,botany,zoology,medicine,information spreading and information record,it helps record the information which is unable to be expressed in the form of word language truly and vividly but in the form of picture,which also greatly improves the authenticity of the information that has been recorded,it coexists with the document literature that keeps a record of important materials and information by supplementing each other,and therefore it is also called as documentary printmaking.The techniques of creation for printmaking are different during different periods,but with the development of science,the application of documentary printmaking in the field of science exactly witnesses its development and change from the simplest method to a series of rich and complicated creation techniques today.Based on the analysis about the creation purpose of documentary printmaking,the financial resources needed for creation as well as the identity of the creator,documentary printmaking reflects the historical significance,class nature and historical inherit.With the development of various fields,documentary printmaking has been increasingly applied,but with the increasingly advanced science and technology,digital photography is used more often,and it is replacing documentary printmaking to some extent but not fully,because photography can not reach the requirements of literature record in many aspects.In this paper,it focuses on the research about documentary printmaking in several aspects including the background of its birth,the techniques applied,the practical significance as well as creative artists with the representative works in different periods according to the different social fields that documentary printmaking involves,and moreover,it analyzes the practical significance of the existence of documentary printmaking by considering the historical background and the state of society at that time as well as its great influence on the corresponding field of science.In this paper,it strives to seek the creative spirit of artists at that time among the representative works during the 16~thh and 17~thh centuries,which are the important periods for the application and development of documentary printmaking and to analyze the value and significance of the existence of documentary printmaking as well as the enlightenment for the development of printmaking in modern China.Furthermore,it also represents the influence on the author's own creation by making an analysis on documentary printmaking and think upon the impact on the development of printmaking in modern China by making a comparison between the creative spirit of documentary printmaking and printmaking in modern China,hoping thereby to realize the inheritance of documentary printmaking.
