David Hockney is one of the most influential British artists in the past century,and is arguably one of Britain's greatest living painters.He devoted himself to the exploration and research of art throughout his whole life.The open and inclusive attitude to art is the cause of diversity in his artistic creation.In the long-term breakthrough and practice of artistic creation,the painter gradually formed a “self – contained” creative style.This paper begins with the elaboration of David Hockney's artistic life and style evolution.Through understanding the David Hockney's painting work of his painting creation,color becomes an important means to strengthen the tension of works and highlight the deep meaning of paintings.Through the choice and combination of colors,the painting not only has rich spiritual content,but also is the link that conveys the artist's true feelings and subjective feelings.His works are characterized by bright colors,high saturation,subjective colors and decorative colors.The use of contrasting colors makes the picture more powerful.In addition,the painter also has its own unique views in painting composition.The images summarized in a geometric shape give Hockney's works a sense of rational firmness and order,but the bright colors break the feelings.Hockney's use of color is based on a kind of excitation of his own emotion to achieve a complementary balance between the two feelings.At the same time,Hockney and oriental art are closely related and influenced by it,and his works add extraordinary splendor to the unique composition of space by learning from the traditional Chinese painting.All his life,Hockney has been pursuing creative and innovative painting practice,making his paintings richer in emotional orientation and expressiveness.
