Study Of Story Minor

The story minor refers to all the characters except the main characters(leading character, opposite character) according to the role assignment based on the storyline. They serve the whole story who are indispensable with independent value. The emphasis on the concept of ‘story minor' is to distinguish from the conventional wisdom that they are just supplement to leading character. By means of Western Narratology and Creative Writing, the text conducts the study of story minor from three aspects: function, fun and archetype. Function is to sort out the specific effect of story minor on the story structure, fun works on the asthetics of story minor beyond the structure, archetype does the study of the specific presenting form of story minor in the story besides function and fun.‘Function of story minor'of chapter one presents the clou through three part: Information transfer, action progress and character disposition of story minor. The chapter starts with early literary works like ancient Greek and Roman on the basis of functional theories of Propp, it comes to a conclusion that the function of story minor is kind of diachronic. It functions as ‘information transfer'at first, and then as general narration namely rhythm control(regulate, slow and accelerate the storyline).By comparing the fun with value of story, ‘Fun of story minor'of chapter two finds that in some good stories, the leading character realizes the value of story, while the story minor presents the fun of story. From the theory of creative writing, the chapter deduces that the fun of story brought by story minor is multilevel (sentiment, interest and objective). The general results concluded from the study of function and fun of story minor is called as regularity in the text, and we try to find out the origins behind it (particular cultural thinking, situational thinking, intervention thinking of author).‘Archetype of story minor' of chapter three tries to explore the classification based on the specific presenting form of story minor in the story, by using the concept of ‘Archetype' and combining with function and fun stated in the previous two chapters. Classification of archetype of story minor enable us to theoretically make preliminary conclusion for the story minor in the works at all times and in all over the world, as well as to provide writer with idea about character creation in creative practice.Through the study of three parts above, it's considered that the study of story minor could constitute a preliminary character theory. Though the frequency of story minor presence is limited, his part has self logic and specific aesthetics.
