The Study Of Napoleon's Image In Russian Literature Of 19^th Century

There are lots of research achievements about Napoleon in academia,but few scholars study the image of Napoleon from the 19th century of Russian literature.This thesis is based on Russian literature of 19th century and summed up the image of Napoleon into four types: the enemy image,the European Giant image,the clown image,the superman image(this thesis will focus on studying the last two images).The first two images is based on the real historical Napoleon and his deeds,in these two images,the writers' judgements about Napoleon is also based on the real deeds;the clown image of Napoleon is not based on the real Napoleon and his deeds,but on the the writers' subjective emotions,it's an constructed image by the text;the superman image is not an objective existence but superman's spirit.The clues of this thesis is: the real historical image of napoleon in the text(objective image)— the constructed image by writers in the text(subjective image)– the superman image in the text(the blurring spiritual image).In this thesis,I will use the method of imagology to research Napoleon's image and discuss the reasons and backgrounds why they shaped that kind of Napoleon's image,trying to analysis how Napoleon's image has influenced Russian psychology and the cognition of their own.In this way,I want to indicate the significance of Napoleon's image for modern society.This thesis is divided into four parts: introduction,body(three chapters),conclusion and references.The first part overviews present situation of domestic and overseas research,to establish the research objects?research contents?research objectives and tasks.Based on this,I will point out the research value and innovation of this thesis.The first chapter researches the enemy and giant image of Napoleon.Because these two images are totally different,we can compare them together.Based on the books of Krylov,Pushkin,Lermontov,Gogol and Herzen,I will study the two different images,then discuss the reasons and backgrounds why they shaped this kind of Napoleon's image.The second chapter is based on the books of Pushkin,Lermontov,Gogol,Dostoevsky and Tolstoy to discuss Napoleon's clown image.Then to discuss the reasons and backgrounds why they shaped this kind of Napoleon's image.The third chapter is based on the Crime and Punishment to discuss Napoleon's blurring spiritual image.Then to discuss the superman image of “Russian Napoleons”,in other words,this spitit is Russian nihilism.The last part will sum up the important position and significance about Napoleon's image in Russian literature of 19th century,to point out the significance and necessity of researching the superman image for modern society.
