Literature is a mirror of society, reflecting the different forms of real life and closely related to social reality.Through literary works,we can see the social situation at that time.China and Russia have a long history of exchanges. In Russian literature, many descriptions of China can be seen. These descriptions are in line with social reality,or with the author's prejudice or miswriting, which can reflect the social situation of Russia at that time, and can also see the author's creative psychology, and at the same time have important literary and practical significance.Especially in today's increasingly close Sino-Russian relations, analyzing the image of China in Russian literature can help us understand the Russian society's understanding and imagination of China. The situation of Russian society in the 19 th century was complicated.Due to the urgent need of development and reform, writers in this period inevitably had understanding and thinking about the society at that time in the process of creation. The Chinese image of Russian literature in the 19 th century can be roughly divided into two categories. One type of image comes from the author's understanding of China obtained from books. These images are similar to the Chinese image in the book of "Chinese fever" at that time. They are the Utopia-style Chinese image created by the author from the books and his own understanding and imagination. The writers have described distant China as a description, expressing their eagerness for their own development and their ardent expectations for the future.Another type of image comes from the author's travel, which is the record and writing of the Chinese that the author saw with his own eyes. This part of the author came to or passed through China for different purposes. At that time, the Chinese society faced internal and external troubles and the urgent external development and expansion of Russia at that time. This kind of image was separated from Utopia. On the basis of recording what they have heard and what they feel, combined with their own travel goals and appeals, the author has created a more comprehensive, more stereoscopic, closer to Chinese social reality, but also with an exaggerated negative description of the Chinese image. This thesis selects four famous Russian writers in the 19 th century-Pushkin,Tolstoy,Goncharov and Chekhov, combined with their personal experiences, combing and analyzing the Chinese image in their works in the social background and international environment at that time.
