Along with the development of digital image technology and the rise of western modernism,the easel painting,as a pure handmade easel art,is inevitably challenged by the image era with the diversities of visual arts.Image,video and multimedia as the representative of the new images,has slowly replaced writin g and are becoming the main carrier of reading and perception of the world.The new image with its rich visual characteristics,wide participation and mechanical reproduction,has gradually become the main visual consumption of this era.There are close re lationship between image and easel painting as well.The image assists the creation of the easel painting;and the easel painting works as a gorgeous carrier for the image.They both rely on each other,which create more possibilities for new visual art.T he new image has become one of the most important cultural features in this era.In regards to the new image,however,there are some controversies.Is it visual temptation or confusion? Or is the classic aesthetics replaced by generalized value of aesthet ic brought by the new image era?
