A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of The Website Of University Of Waterloo In The View Of Three Dimensions' Transformation

Since the official website of universities plays an intermediary role of understanding the culture,teaching,research and staff resources,English-Chinese websites translation of overseas universities facilitate the communications between Chinese and overseas universities.This report firstly introduces the text characteristics of the webisites of universities in English-speaking countries and draws on the domestic research on university website translation for reference.Domestic research puts emphasis on Chinese-English translation of Chinese universities to propogate our own universities to the world while this report stresses the application of translation theory and skilles on English-Chinese translation of the website of University of Waterloo(UW)to promote the cooperation between domestic universities and UW.Based on Three Dimensions' Transformation Methods in Eco-translation Theory,this present report focuses on how language(linguistic structure),cultural background and communication dimensions achieve flexible adaptation according to specific context.By analyzing the typical translation cases,it elaborately discusses the translation skills and strategies used in the process of translation.In the end,this report further discusses the translation strategies for organizational structures(faculty establishment and administrative setup)of domestic and foreign universities,which is the most difficult part in this translation practice.By utilizing the cultural dimension transformation and fully considering culture's role in this part,translation suggestions are given to make full use of Three Dimension Transformation into translating the specific differences: only by taking account of culture's influence on translation of administrative setup and faculty establishment can English hidden message be transmitted to facilitate communication with overseas universities.
