The categorical perception of color(CCP)effect means that distinguish colors that have same name slowly than colors that have different name in the color discrimination task.The core concept of the CCP effect is "category." Each color category corresponds to a range in spectrum.speaker can classify colors into diffrent color categories.However,there is still some controversy about the formation mechanism of category.In recent years,it is generally believed that CCP is indeed influenced by the interaction of language and perception.However,the extent to which language influences the CCP effect is still an unclear issue.According to previous studies,the development of the color category is one-dimensional and one-way in time,ranging from a few to many,from simple to complex and from large to small rang;on the physiology,the most basic light sensery can distinguish between light and dark,the cone cell can distinguish between red,green and blue,followed by antagonistic mechanisms and the cerebral cortex can distinguish more colors;in terms of spatial characteristics,the shape,boundary position,and topology of any color category on the world color servey are constant.This study trying to investigate CCP theories and explore the influence of language on CCP.The first study used fatigue and satiation operations to immediately change the CCP effect of the participants.It was found that color fatigue accelerated the discrimination between categories and enhanced the category effect.The color word satiation inhibited discrimination between colors that belongs to satiated catigory.Although the categorical/verbal label comparisons(VLC)can explain the within-category effect,there are doubts about the interpretation of the between-category effect.Only combining the feedback model based on Bayesian inference and the VLC can completely explain all experimental conclusions.The second study adapted the artificial language training to synthesize blue and purple as “Dian Se”,green and blue as “Qing Se”.Participants are trained lasting 4 days and be tested in the visual serach task after daily training.As a result,with the increase in the number of training,the CCP effect of RVF significantly reduced,while the LVF wasn't.The result showed that the newly acquired language concept can change the CCP of RVF.And suggested that language can not only form a new category,but also can compete with the old category and gradually eliminate the old category.As a result,breaking the general rules of development of the color category.It can even destroy the green-blue border with a clear physiological basis.The third study also adapted the artificial language training to synthesize green and purple as same color,which breaking the topological nature of natural color categories.That means to used same color word to name two separated color intervels.The visual serach task was performed before and after a total of 6 days of training.Considering that the perception distance between green and purple is very large,fatigue and satiation operations were added to further influence the participant's CCP.It was found that the CCP effect of the RVF on the satiation condition of color words was eliminated after training,which means the linguistic knowledge that completely violated expeirence can affect the CCP.On the satiation condition of color words,the language breaked the temporal characteristics,physiological basis,and spatial characteristics of the color word development in the RVF.On the color fatigue conditions,the CCP effect be weakened.Which means the right hemisphere can be a “free kingdom” of language in certain conditions.In summary,there studies show that the combination of the Bayesian model with the VLC model can be more useful for interpreting the experimental results.Further,it is found that the influence of language on the categorical perception of color almost reaches the level of "free change CCP" in RVF,but it is very difficult to play same role in LVF.Of course,LVF may be affected if training time is further increased.Finally,although the topological nature of color perception was eventually broken by artificial language training,which relied on the strongly languages task be proformed before the visual research task,it was demonstrated that the cognitive burden that breaking the topological nature of color perception was extremely heavy,revealing the stability of topological nature in human perception.
