As documentaries getting popular from among small groups to among mass groups,more and more people begin to pay attention to and create documentaries.As the recipient of documentary,audiences are particularly important on the way to market-oriented documentaries.The documentary creators can only open the market more quickly and promote the development of the documentary by concerning about the audience's psychology and their demands as well as creating documentaries from the perspective of the audience.After researching and studying a large quantity of analysis about the audience of documentary and documentary creation theories,the author teases the documentary creation theory and related concepts in this paper.This paper studies the relationship between documentary creation and the audience from the perspective of popularization,dramatization and marketization,then summarizes how to create documentaries from the angle of the audiences and applies it to the graduation work The Paper-cut Chronicles.During the whole research process,the author applied literature research method,case analysis and practice creation to do research about documentary creation under the audience's angle from different perspectives and levels.The structure of this article is briefly expounded as follows.The research contents of this paper are divided into three parts.The first part is to introduce some related basic theory and concept definition.The author combines his own understanding and application in the process of practical creation,and makes proper blends,so as to make abstract terms such as reception aesthetics,narratology,communication and audience be more suitable for the present documentary creation.The second part expounds the characteristics of the audience and its status in documentaries.Through the research and analysis,the author summarizes the characteristics into selectivity,variability and entertainment.The role of the audience as a final examiner in the process of documentary communication is extremely crucial.Therefore,knowing the center position of the audience,understanding the characteristics of the audience of documentary and learning the audience's viewing demand are keys to the success of documentary creation.These are also especially important to documentary creators.The third part discusses the three creative ideas of documentaries: popularization,dramatization and marketization.The main contents of this part mainly include analyzing the importance of the three ideas to documentary creation based on the audience,the concrete embodiment and the basic creative principles of the three ideas in documentaries.By studying some of the outstanding documentary works at home and abroad,this paper analyzes how these works integrate these three ideas into creation and how it would affect the audience.Moreover,combining the practical creation in the graduation work The Paper-cut Chronicles,the author displays once again the specific application effect and combine of these three ideas.The author hopes this paper will provide feasible guidance and support to the creation of documentary in the future.
