The Application Research Of Dunhuang Grotto Edge Ornament In VI Design

The edge ornament of Dunhuang has experienced the development of many dynasties and were well protected,which make the edge ornament acquire high value in practicability and theory research.The Tang Dynasty is an important period for the development of Dunhuang grottoes.In this period,the edge ornament were of great research valuation in both content and formalization.As the crucial part of Dunhuang grottoes,the edge ornament were possess with the function of mural,direction,decoration,interval and connections.The edge ornament has the characteristics of both small and exquisite and is also consistent with the style of Dunhuang grottoes,so the edge ornament in Dunhuang grottoes is of high application and research value.As an VI designer,the protecting,digesting,recreating and remolding of the traditional culture were the important cultural mission in designer's career.In this paper,we expounds the characteristics of the edge ornament of Tang dynasty and its affection in the Dunhuang grottoes.Subsequently,the significance of applying edge ornament to VI design were discussed in visual aesthetic value,cultural value and commercial dissemination value aspects.To explore the method of adding the edge ornament to VI design,appearance,color and implies were considerate.Combining with analysis of the current application about applying Chinese elements to VI design and the example of "Manman book bar",the pattern of applying edge ornament to VI design were explored and the methods and rules were discussed.Through the mix together of edge ornament and VI design,the brand value of enterprise were displayed and the Dunhuang grottoes were also carried forward.
