This translation report is based on US-China Strategic Competition: Towards a New Power Equilibrium written by S.Mahmud Ali.Chapter one outlines the conflicts of current Sino-US relations,from macro to micro levels,elaborates on the historical evolution of Sino-US relations as well as the opportunities and challenges in the future with detailed and concrete examples.The report elaborates on the background information and the translation process in four parts: translation task description,translation process description,case analysis,as well as summary and conclusion.The third part is the main body of the report.The problems encountered by the author mainly involves three aspects – the comprehension and translation of proper nouns,rhetoric and special sentence pattern.For the study of the translation of proper nouns,the report focuses on two typical types – names and political terms,and the translation methods adopted include addition and literal translation with annotation;the rhetorical part mainly studies metonymy and metaphor,and the translation methods adopted include literal translation,paraphrase and transplantation translation;the third part mainly studies elliptical sentences and sentences with parenthesis,and the translation methods adopted include sentence sequence driven method,sentence reconstruction method and bracket method.This translation report summarizes the corresponding translation methods and strategies of the typical problems in the translation of the international communication text,attempting to provide certain reference for the translation of this kind of text in the future.
