An Analysis Of Film Subtitle Translation Principles And Techniques On Translating Wolf Totem

Films play an increasingly important role in cultural communication between China and the west.As a supplementary way of film communication,subtitle translation reflects unique features of every language by retaining the original language,which is essential for the promotion of indigenous culture to the world.As most of the researches have been done to study the literary translation instead of subtitle translation,more attention should be paid to the film translation area.The thesis focuses on the principles and the strategies employed in translating the film Wolf Totem with reference to the features of film subtitles.In the first two chapters,the film translation and research background have been surveyed.The analysis is made on the purposes and the features of subtitles in the film Wolf Totem.As a key part of this thesis,Chapter Four analyzes the translation principles and techniques in translating Wolf Totem.The conclusion is drawn in the last chapter.The present research is expected to shed new light on the future subtitle translation research and practice.At the same time,more attention can be drawn to this burgeoning area.
