Studying abroad education activities is an important way for Chinese people to explore the salvation of national salvation.As a frontier of western learning,Jiangsu,with the support of Qing officials and local celebrities,has also carried out overseas education activities with its profound economic foundation and cultural and educational foundations.At the same time,it has profoundly influenced Chinese modernization process.This article focuses on the study of Jiangsu's overseas education activities from1840 to 1928 and its influence on the modernization of Chinese education.From the opium war in 1840 to the end of the Northern Government in 1928,Jiangsu overseas education activities mainly consists of three stages during this period.First of all,1840-1895 was the rising stage of overseas education in Jiangsu.During this period,Jiangsu students were represented by 22 young children studied in the United States,which opened the prelude to Jiangsu's overseas education activities.At the same time,Education of studying in Europe began to rise with the dispatch of students and entourage personnel from the Fuzhou Boat Administration School to Europe.Ma Jianzhong is one of the representatives of Jiangsu international students.Secondly,1895-1911 was the initial stage of development of overseas education in Jiangsu.In this phase,after the Sino-Japanese War of the Sino-Japanese War,the fierce defeat has aroused the sentiment of the people to study abroad to save the country.As a result,the education for studying in Japan in Jiangsu has risen and flourished in the late 19 th century and early 20 th century.At the beginning of the 20 th century,the advancement of studying abroad using the remission of the Boxer Indemnity made it possible for Jiangsu's education activities in the United States to be widely carried out.In the same period,with the advancement of the New Deal reform in the late Qing Dynasty,Jiangsu's education activities in Europe remained preliminary.Finally,1911-1928 was the stage of free development for overseas education in Jiangsu.At this stage,due to the influence of the international and domestic situation,the activities in Japan continued to develop in a tortuous manner,showing an upward trend and a downward trend.Different from the activities in Japan,Jiangsu's educational activities in the United States continue to develop.There have been various forms of the overseas study using the remission of the Boxer Indemnity,the provincial sent to the United States,school sent to the United States,and Rewards party work visit to the United States.Besidesthat,there are also Work-study programs in France and study in Russia and other forms of activities.After studying abroad,Jiangsu students have worked in different industries one after another,and the education industry is an important direction for their employment.They rely on their overseas study experience to inject new vitality into the school's teaching staff and management team.They have introduced new education concepts for domestic education,promoted experimentation and reform of education,and promoted the establishment of non-governmental education groups.These activities have all contributed to the modernization of Chinese education.Jiangsu,as an important region for the overseas education activities from 1840 to1928,has an important significance in the history of regional education and the history of Chinese education in the modern era.After returning to China,the overseas students in Jiangsu during this period have had a profound influence on the modernization of Chinese education.However,unfortunately,there are few special studies in the academia on overseas students in Jiangsu and their influence on the modernization of education.Therefore,it is hoped that this study can enrich the study of the history of overseas study and provide reference for present day study education research.
