Review On Yukiti Fukuzawa 's "Theory Of Taiwan"

China was defeated in the Sino-Japanese War,and both sides signed the Treaty of Shimonoseki on April 17 th,1895.According to it,Taiwan and its attached islands and the Penghu Islands are ceded to Japan.Since then,the colonial domination in Taiwan had lasted for half a century.At the preliminary stage of the colonial domination,the ideologist Yukiti Fukuzawa hid the polices in Japanese government.He came up with new and better ways for Japanese government and supported its actions.Yukiti Fukuzawa took the Newspaper “The New Time” as a battle field of speech,continuously published dozens of editorial about policy on Taiwan.Its main contents included: usurp Taiwan as the important strategic significance of Japan national defense,the Japanese government how to suppress Taiwan people's resistance and some suggestions about how to manage Taiwan,etc,which played a guiding role for the Japanese government's policy on Taiwan at that time.The views expressed through the editorials formed Yukiti Fukuzawa's the“theory of Taiwan”The first part,this article makes a simple introduction about Yukiti Fukuzawa and the Newspaper“The New Time”.Fukuzawa as a founder and editor of the newspaper plays a decisive role to the newspaper,and Taiwan's editorial in the Newspaper “The New Time” is fully equal to the editorial of Fukuzawa.The second part first analyzes the background of Yukiti Fukuzawa's the “theory of Taiwan” from home and abroad.Therefore,results conclude that Fukuzawa who is a civiliazed theorists changes into an aggressive theorist,which stands for colonial ideology in different periods.The main idea of Yukiti Fukuzawa,which is Japan's so-called independence and prosperity,never changes.However,the Japan's so-called independence and prosperity means bully to China and the Korean peninsula countries.Next,this article focuses on the content of the “theory of Taiwan”.Fukuzawa emphasizes that Taiwan plays an important strategic role in Japan's security.And he advices putting down Taiwan people's resistance and the way to govern Taiwan,which fully exposes Fukuzawa's colonialist mentality.The third part of this paper is the evaluation of Yukiti Fukuzawa and his “theory of Taiwan".This part involves four aspects,geo-politic,the relationship between Fukuzawa and Japanese politics,Fukuzawa's evaluation of the 1894 Sino-Japanese war and the the rule of Taiwan policy.Fukuzawa's speech has been cooperate with the Japanese government's policy at that time,and its guiding role can not to be ignored.In later years,Fukuzawa is very proud of what he have done for Japan during more than 40 years,and considers himself as one of the creators this period of history.And many suggestions of “the theory of Taiwan ”of Fukuzawa are consistent with Japan's policy on Taiwan,so what Taiwan people suffered during the period of rule by Japan cannot be said has nothing to do with Fukuzawa.
