A Study Of The Relationship Between Top Manager Political Relationship Of Agricultural Enterprise And Corporate Social Responsibility Behavior

Agriculture enterprises have a special position in national economy, no matter in the production safety of agricultural products, to maintain physical and mental health of consumers, or to ensure the development of the rural economy, employment and other aspects, they have an important role. However, in recent years due to the lack of social responsibility of agricultural enterprises, result in the breakout of all kinds of agricultural product quality safety accidents, also reflected the agricultural enterprise is difficult to guarantee the quality safety of agricultural products in the source. In agricultural enterprises, executives are often the decision makers. When top manager have political connections, that is, current or former serving in positions in the government and other units, in "relationship oriented" social environment, the enterprise may use the relationship with government, to fulfill their social responsibility for its own has been acquired business capital. particularly for agricultural enterprises, as compared to the traditional "weak" industry, and the industrial enterprises, agricultural enterprises in the course of business need is facing a period of crop growth, climate and other objective factors to obtain the corresponding policy support or is government subsidies for the importance of agricultural enterprises should not be underestimated. In return, fulfilling social responsibility is the inevitable choice for agricultural enterprises. Therefore, it is not uncommon to fulfill the social responsibility under the political connection.In fact, whether agricultural business top manager have political connections, can promote the agricultural enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities? Or the agricultural enterprises to fulfill their social responsibility can bring certain economic benefit for the enterprise? Based on this, this paper studies the 119 agricultural listing enterprises, through the extraction of corporate accounting data in the annual report of the relationship between top managers' political connection and corporate social responsibility of agricultural enterprises. In the set of variables, agricultural enterprises top managers' political connection as the independent variable, agricultural enterprise social responsibility as dependent variables, and also sub dimensions, respectively, the agribusiness for consumers, investors, and the community, and employee social responsibility as dependent variables, to explore the relationship between two main variables. In addition, set institutional environment and agricultural enterprises characters as a moderating variable, and agricultural enterprises in the course of business enterprise scale, capital structure and corporate performance as the control variable, for the better examinations of agricultural enterprises operating conditions.Through the empirical analysis, in this paper, we prove that there is a significant positive correlation between agricultural enterprise top managers' political connections and corporate social responsibility. That is to say, when the top managers have political connections, they will use this relationship to fulfill the corresponding social responsibility, while improve enterprise in social status or reputation, may get the relevant policy support from government. And when the level of agricultural enterprises top managers' political connection is higher, they are more likely to perform social responsibility. When divide corporate social responsibility of agricultural enterprise into consumers, investors, employees and community responsibility, it comes to different conclusions. Political connections of top managers between consumers, investors and employees have significant positive correlation, but relations between the community responsibilities are negative, but not significant. That's because a big part of agricultural enterprises' scale are not huge enough, and cannot keep a sustained donation.In addition, in order to explore the relationship between the agricultural enterprise top managers' political connection and corporate social responsibility, the two adjustment variables: the institutional environment and enterprises characters. The results also show that the institutional environment negatively regulate the relationship between them. The better institutional environment means a "clean" area, the lower the likelihood that agricultural enterprises may use the political connections to fulfill social responsibility. And in terms of the character of agricultural enterprises, the regulation of the relationship is not significant, namely agricultural enterprises to fulfill social responsibility and corporate property not related. No matter the character of agricultural enterprise is state-owned or public-run; they are all subject to the special nature of them. When with the political connection, they may have a tendency to fulfill their social responsibilities, to seek their own development interests.
