At the end of the twentieth century,South Africa ended the apartheid and achieved political transformation smoothly.During the process of transformation, the value of tolerance and compromise is highlighted. In the study of democratic transformation of South Africa, most scholars have also interpreted the process of political struggle and the democratization of South Africa from the perspective of tolerance.I believe that if the discussion stopped here is not enough. It has been more than twenty years since South Africa ended the apartheid, and although it has achieved success in many aspects, there are still many serious problems in the new South African society which reflect the racist conflict, thus proposing new theoretical challenges:Tolerance is important to construct the order of South Africa in the period of democratic transition, but as a general idea, the "neutrality"principle implied in tolerance is not enough to fully recognize the "difference",so it is not enough to respond to the new the practice of Pluralism in South Africa. In the context of pluralism, the values of "difference","identity" "recognition" also need to be realized. In other words,in the face of pluralism issues, contemporary democratic society need "politics of recognition" dimension more. This paper examines the transition of democracy and the post-transitional era in South Africa, and analyzes the existing tolerance discourse, especially its insignificance to supplement the new political contradictions in the new South African society, and then introduces the theory of "recognition of politics".Finally,I put forward the "politics as recognition" as a theoretical reorganization, thus give theoretical response to the current new South African racial issues.I think that "tolerance as recognition" is of great significance to the issue of racism and conflict of values in the context of contemporary pluralism.
