Study On Island And Reef Dispute Policy Of South Korea

South Korea is a peninsula country surrounded by seawater on three sides,the national security threats mainly come from the land and the sea.In the long historical process,South Korea through the constraints of the Chinese tributary system,the colonial rule of Japanese,the control of US-ROK alliance,its marine consciousness is generally in a lagging state,and its cognative of marine safety is not clear enough.In recent years,with the continuous improvement of marine consciousness in the world,South Korea has paid more attention to the development and utilization of the sea,strengthened the maintenance of marine rights,the protection of marine safety,and the research,control,management of disputed islands and reefs in the surrounding waters.South Korea is located in the center of Northeast Asia,and its island and reef dispute policies not only directly affect China's maritime rights and security,but also related to the development of marine security in Northeast Asia.Therefore,to study South Korea's island and reef dispute policies will help us understand South Korea's ways of resolving maritime disputes,Correctly read South Korea's policy intentions and policy moves,provide the basis for China to safeguard its maritime rights,interests and maritime security.This paper studies the dispute policy of South Korea's island and reef as the case of Suyan Reef and Dokdo.The formation of the South Korean island and reef dispute policy is based on the strengthen of the marine consciousness in the world,and South Korea's raising awareness of the importance of islands and reefs.South Korea's policy proposition,basis and policy initiatives on Suyan Reef and Dokdo reflect South Korea's policy goals that control Suyan Reef and Dokdo tightly.South Korea's policy on Suyan Reef and Dokdo shows the characteristics of South Korea's island and reef dispute policy,that is promoting the controversial island and reef to belong to South Korea,to become to island,legalization and militarization.South Korea's island and reef dispute policy will have a lot of impact on bilateral relations between China and ROK,ROK and Japan,as well as the situation in Northeast Asia.In the future,South Korea will continue to strengthen the control of the disputed island and reef,US-ROK alliance will enhance impact on the disputed island and reef.The way resolving the island and reef dispute through international law is still a long way to go.
