Yellow Chinese Americans have been classified as honorary whites b ecause of their achievements in US.But ethnic Chinese always experience mistreatment and discrimination and do not have the sam e rights and status as m ainstream whites.Chinese Americans are suf fering perpetual foreigner syndrome in US,without strong identification as real Americans.Due to manslaughter,NYPD police officer Peter Liang has been indicted and convicted, which has triggered Chinese Americans' anger and milestone protests to fight against such injustice.Through combing and analyzing the views of Chinese Americans on Peter Liang case, the dissertation illuminates that Chinese Americans identify themselves as marginal men in US.The main body of the dissertation consis ts of three chap ters, respectively grounded on political, cultural an d social spheres. The first chapter analyzes Chinese Americans' identification as political marginalmen. It could see that Chinese Americans are inactive in election,im passive in modern social movements, and inexperienced in political engagement. The second chapter illustrates why Chinese Americans perceive they are cultural marginal men.Chinese Americans have retained distinct cultural traits. They hold distinct Chinese values, keep Chinese life patterns and know little about African Americans' history of racial struggle. The third chapter deals with Chinese Americans' identification as social marginal men.Chinese Americans see themselves mistreated in justice and policing systems, feel they are not fully accepted in education and employment, and perceive them to be stigmatized in American mass media.Through above analysis, the dissertation discovers that Chinese Americans are not fully accepted and well integ rated into mainstream society. To some extent, they are politically aloof, culturally different and socially excluded. So,Chinese Americans identify themselves as marginal men in US.
