The Issue Of Mexican-American Immigrants In The 21^st Century

As the largest immigrant group in the United States,Mexican immigrants have played an important role in the history of U.S.immigration.This paper demonstrates the issue of Mexican immigrants in the 21st century through their history,their influence on the U.S.,their current problems and the measures taken as well as their future development.The first chapter looks back on the history of Mexican-American immigrants.Ever since they arrived in the U.S.,their population has been on the constant rise,aside from the slump in the 30s,more so since the 70s,largely due to unfavorable economy in Mexico and a strong demand for labor force in the U.S..The second chapter discusses the current problems facing the Mexican-American immigrants.They have been suffering from low incomes,a high poverty rate and inadequate education.Therefore,their career structure is marginalized,and they live at the bottom of the U.S.Society,resulting in their weak political consciousness and the fact that they have yet managed to fulfill the political influence in proportion with their population.The third chapter analyzes the major influence of Mexican immigrants on the U.S..Ever since they arrived in the U.S.,Mexican immigrants have been providing it with a constant and generous supply of cheap labor force,and have created a vast consumer market.However,they have also affected the employment opportunity and working conditions of local workers as well as workers belonging to other ethnic groups,and have burdened the public welfare system of the U.S.,which gave rise to racial conflicts and collisions.The fourth chapter summarizes the measures taken by the U.S.Government to cope with the issue of Mexican immigrants and predicts their future development.The measures taken include reinforcing border control and promoting bilateral negotiation with the Mexican government.In the foreseeable future,the Mexican population in the United States will continue to grow,and so will their political influence.Meanwhile,the enormous ethnic group will also have to face more racial prejudices and hostility.It is hard to solve the issue of Mexican immigrants thoroughly in the short run,but there is no doubt that they will play an increasingly important role in the political,economic and social development of the United States.
