The Vietnam war has ended more than 40 years,but the study of the Vietnam war has never stopped.In the modern history,with its unique geographical location and rich in resources,Vietnam,had become a regional center of war,and after world war two,the Vietnam war that lasted for 20 years even became an important part of the cold war period.There is no doubt that the Vietnam war is a valuable research direction,no matter in the aspect of the military history,the cold war history or the history of the United States.From feeling confident to finally turned back,the United States government had been committed on how to end the war in Vietnam decently,both tried in military and diplomatic(force to suppress and demilitarization talks)in order to maximize benefit.In the late 1960 s and early 1970 s,the Nixon administration held a strategy to speed up the solution of the Vietnam war,as it was the focus of the world's attention and priority of the national diplomacy at that time.This article mainly focuses on the previous government,the Nixon administration u.s-vietnamese relations,the strategy of "Madman" and "duck hook " plan and the implementation of the plan.Combining with the data of history and international relations and other related disciplines and research methods,the whole paper tries to fully restore the situation and to analysis the reason why the United States administration did not use nuclear weapons in the Vietnam war ultimately.The paper consists of introduction,text,epilogue and bibliography,and the text divides into three parts: This article is divided into introduction,body and conclusion three parts.The text is divided into three parts.The first part is the background part,mainly elaborates the situation of the American troops in the Vietnam war,how Johnson's administration made efforts to return to peace talks and what did The Nixon administration do during the first years of Nixon's turn;The second part mainly introduces implementation of a strategy and the results.Nixon and the core of his team Kissinger designed to use a bold and crazy nuclear weapons strategy named "Madman" to force Vietnam government to back to peace talks instead of continuing the war;The third part is to explore the result by international and domestic aspects,concluded that the United States had no reasonable explanation to use nuclear weapons in the Vietnam war.
