Officers of Military Personnel Assessment, especially the recruiters, need to audit information concerning mental health or personal background from tens of thousands of candidates in a relatively short period of time, and pick out applicants who may have obsession for further investigation. It is the place where deception detection would have it arena. However, despite of existing requirement, the research of deception detection confined to laboratory studies, and has few empirical evidence. As the huge difference between simulated situation and real context, whether the results of past research could be a reference remains a doubt.More Regrettably, traditional deception detection methods adopted in criminal investigation and judicial arbitration are not suitable for use in its extension, information screening in military personnel assessment. Thus,it is imperative to establish suitable screening system. With this thought, the present study selected the appropriate paradigm and indexes which could fill the bill in screening procedure based on the principle of lie detection and on the requirements of military personnel assessment, compiling kinds of information under investigation into structured deception detection test which contained 4 functional questions, these are Irrelevant Question,Comparison Question,Relevant Question of Tier1 and Relevant Question of Tier2.we conducted three field experiments to probe response pattern on screening test, its correlation with personality traits and cognitive suppression under real test situation to do our bits for the descending prosperity. In contrast to the conventional CQT method, the present study made all of the questions described positively(e.g.Didn't had a history of alcoholism)and negatively(e.g.I had a history of alcoholism)to multiply the number of questions and to avoid the response set,and the negative description would guide the subjects to a "yes" reaction while the positive description tended to get a denying response. The present study attempted to answer the following two questions:1.Where does the difference between Screening Test and previous CQT lie? Does situational factor affect the result of Screening Test?2.What is the response pattern of Screening Test? Is it related to personality factors and cognitive suppression procedure? In order to probe these issues,we conducted three field studies:Study oneObjective in order to analyze response to Screening Test,we conducted a field experiment to measure body movement and analyze the answer to each question.Methods(1)Context Creation The first part of research was a description study,we created field test condition based on a new round mental health assessment in 2015 as all the subjects were candidates for recruit, and we also set a laboratory test condition, that was the control group. That the acceleration recorder which the experimenter misled the subjects into regarding as a physiological signal collector should be worn was declared in field test condition, and all subjects should maintain upper limb static.Specific guidance lies in the first part of text.(2)Participant A total of 1003 subjects were tested without retrospective validation. The average age was 19.7 ±0.8 years old,and the ratio of male to female was 1: 0.The subjects in the control group were volunteers in a total of 30 students, the average age was 17.8 ±1.1 years old, ratio of male and female was 1: 0.(3)Data Analysis We adopted frequency analysis to acceleration parameter and probe the response difference related to condition difference by comparing the answer options and body movements between two conditions. Results with the increase of the intensity of the questions(Comparison-Relevant 1-Relevant 2),the number of subjects who had passed the test according to the answer he made was increased.Compared with control group, the acceleration values under field test were smaller. After the frequency domain analysis, the wrist acceleration of the all test group could be transferred into 6 high frequency waves of1-6Hz,and they had different amplitudes, the differences were related to the magnitude of the acceleration value itself. However, according to the frequency analysis, the change of acceleration amplitude with stimuli between the two groups was similar. Most subjects tended to have a high frequency acceleration of 1-3Hz on Relevant 1 questions. Conclusions Compared with the result of conventional deception study, the result was quite different. All subjects are more likely to acknowledge their own shortcomings or inappropriate behaviors on the Comparison Question rather than Relevant Question while researcher used to believe all the verbal response of subject were deceptive on Comparison Question. At the same time, although the announcement that the acceleration recorder should be worn properly and be kept in static was stressed several times, the results from two experimental groups was different. Most of the subjects under field test showed their compliance, while the subjects in control group were relatively casual as a result of involvement difference. The change of acceleration amplitude with stimuli between the two groups was similar, most subjects tended to have a high frequency acceleration of 1-3Hz on Relevant 1 questions. It can be seen from the experiment that the results of the screening test were different from those of the previous CQT research. The involvement of the subjects was not the same between real test situation and the laboratory simulated situation. And the results that Relevant 1 question would trigger off unique response should be further tested. The Second PartObject in order to verify the result, probe response pattern of Screening Test and its correlation with personality traits, the second part of present study also conducted field study.Method The second study consists of two experiments.(1)Context Creation We created the field test condition based on the new round mental health survey while there also exist a control group.Instruction of the test could be seen in the body of the text.(2)Participant A total of 940 subjects were tested in the field, the average age was17.1±1.9 years old, male subjects were 801 while female subjects were merely 49.They were all new recruits who had just finished their first training.Control group had 30 subjects, the ratio of male to female was1: 0,the average age was18.5 years old.(3)Data Analysis Both of the group analyzed the response pattern of Screening Test by comparing the response time as an index of cognitive load under two conditions. In the meantime,we also collected the personality data of the subjects in field test to probe the correlation between personality traits and response patterns. Moreover, the third experiment of present study aimed at eliminating the effect of the length of the questions on the response time,a total of 20 subjects attend the experiment, the ratio of male to female was 1: 0,the average age was 18.9±0.3 years old.Answers of each question was omitted, subject could press any button if he had gotten the meaning of the words, and the response time was recorded as simple response time. Results After eliminating the effect simple response time on response time, the response time of the screening test could have reflected the cognitive load of subject. After nonparametric test, though the description difference affected the reaction time in the field test, description difference variable and conditions did not affect the response pattern of Screening Test at 0.05 significance level, that is most participants experienced high cognitive load on Relevant 1.But the response pattern was diverse in field test, and as a result of high image management, the scores of these pattern on personality questionnaire had no significance difference, and personality indeed correlated with the result of response time on Screening Test. Conclusions The second part of the study revealed that most of the subjects in the field test had a higher cognitive load on Relevant 1 question of Screening Test, the result was different from the conclusions that traditional CQT study had made. They believed subjects who did not have problems on related issues would tend to have cognitive load on comparison question. Therefore, the response to Screening Test is unique. The cognitive load of questions was related to test conditions, that is situational factor, and was also related to personality variable. The Third PartObjective as Relevant 1 was a unique question type and most subjects experienced high cognitive load on it,but whether their verbal response to Relevant 1 were deceptive remained unknown. Therefore, the fourth experiment continued to conduct a field test and recruit subjects for control group. The third part of present stud had 3 tasks for all subjects, these are truth telling,Lying task and answer to Relevant 1 Questions. We compared the concentration change of oxyhemoglobin in frontal cortex triggered by the 3 tasks as indexes of cognitive load.Method(1)Condition creation The fourth experimental created field condition based on the psychological test platform in pilot recruitment of Air Force.Introduction could be seen in the text of third part.(2)Participant A total of 50 subjects attend field test, with average age of 17.8±2.2 years old,due to poor contact with the instrument and the wrong operation, data of 30 subjects could be used at last.Control group had a total of 34 subjects, with average age of17.4±1.9 years old, data of 28 subjects were valid.(3)Data analysis Data processing was performed according to the main method of dealing with optical signal from near infrared instrument. The difference of concentration change of oxyhemoglobin when subjects were faced with the 3 tasks was analyzed. The subjects in control group were ensured a good rest before test, coffee or chocolate bar was avoided too.Result The concentration change of oxyhemoglobin to Relevant 1 questions was stronger at 0.05 significance level along with lying task. The concentration change of oxyhemoglobin of telling truth in lab experiment was stronger on the contrary. Conclusion Subjects in field study had higher cognitive load than subjects in control group.Relevant 1 questions could have triggered off bigger response in concentration change of oxyhemoglobin under field test.
