The concept of "local knowledge" has received significant attention,so does the argument propounded by Clifford·Geertz, which is "law is a kind of local knowledge".Although endured a lot of discussion and controversy,it seldom had any systematic study.Geertz has always been of the opinion that every single behavior should be systematically considered in certain situations. In fact,it's also reasonable to understand a scholar's mind in that way.As a result, this thesis makes an effort to formulate the concept of "local knowledge" on the basis of Geertz's most works.By clarifying the intrinsic essence of "local knowledge",we found that there are certain problems in the current domestic research and use. However,it's not enough to comprehend the original intention through one single essay of Geertz,we need to further it by finding a method, and that is his theory of cultural interpretation.Through Ryle's "deep description",we steps into the world that Geertz faced and tries to understand Geertz's work and mind. While the "thick description" presupposes that cultures diversify in various locations.By comparing different philosophic ideas of several philosophers,we found that there are differences between Western-Chinese thought pattern. In western world, the rule and fact are separate, while the opposite in China. In fact, the "local knowledge" is more like a reflective concept in jurisprudential circle. When we emphasize national ideology?behavioral patterns or more,we should also respect other nations and enhance the communication as well.
