Over the years,English vocabulary has been considered one of the most fundamental elements in English study.Therefore,vocabulary teaching must become the key in English teaching.What's more,China's ministry of education enacted National English Curriculum Standards for Common Senior High School in 2003,redoubling the number of vocabulary that students should master,which brings a great challenge for both teachers and students.At present,the research about learning and teaching of English vocabulary mainly focuses on schools in cities and countries,with schools in counties being ignored.With the development of economy in county,a growing number of residents in counties prefer not to stay but send their children to the key high schools in large and developed cities.Meanwhile,the fast progress of urbanization brings an increasing number of students in counties from rural areas,along with the development of private schools in counties.The public high schools in counties are being exposed to the situation in which good students are running away.For that reason,with the combination of questionnaire,interviewing and classroom observation,this study tries to learn about the current situation of teachers' English vocabulary teaching strategies and students' English vocabulary learning strategies in public schools in counties.Through summarizing the differences between students' learning and teachers' teaching,this study tries to make a conclusion about the reason of contradiction's existence between students and teachers if any.Focusing on the difficulties and needs in students' learning and teachers' teaching,this study tries to come up with some effective teaching strategies.Through the data analysis,the writer finds that against the background of good students' running away,there is an unprecedentedly and unexpectedly significant difference between students' learning and teachers' teaching,which is a serious dilemma.Teachers should adopt some effective vocabulary teaching strategies,going deep into the rule of teaching andlearning,and being practically connected to the not-so-good ones.
