Vocabulary is the basis of understanding and using a language, and English vocabulary teaching plays an important role in improving the students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, but the limitation in vocabulary is always a major factor that prevents students from raising their English level, especially in Secondary Vocational School. However, up to now, most of the researches on English vocabulary teaching and learning were directed at high schools or colleges. The study of the English vocabulary teaching and learning in Secondary Vocational School seems a bit inadequate. Therefore, appealing to the Education Ministry's requirement on Secondary Vocational School English, the author applied the frame theory to the English vocabulary teaching.Fillmore's frame theory claims the important functions of encyclopedic knowledge and people's experience in understanding and building lexical meanings. It is significant to English vocabulary teaching. The purpose of this paper is to explore the feasibility of applying frame theory to vocabulary teaching in Secondary Vocational Schools and to see whether it can help students learn and master vocabulary more effectively by conducting an 18-week action research. This action research on the application of Frame Theory to vocabulary teaching in Secondary Vocational Schools aims to answer the following two questions:1) Can the application of frame theory to English vocabulary teaching raise students' interest in vocabulary learning?2) Can the application of frame theory to English vocabulary teaching facilitate students to acquire vocabulary? Data are to be collected by questionnaires, classroom observations, interviews and tests. From the results of the data analysis, the author draws the conclusions that the application of frame theory to English vocabulary teaching improves students' performance and interest in English vocabulary learning. The students have had a significant improvement in their ability to learn vocabulary as well as developing a more positive attitude towards vocabulary learning which lays a solid foundation for their future English learning.
