As the most active and abundant part of language,vocabulary lays the foundation of cultivating language ability.Since influenced by the examine-oriented education in our country,students are generally lack of the ability of self-studying in vocabulary learning.Self-monitoring strategy is a kind of learning strategy that can promote students to play a predominant role in studying.It instructs students to plan,monitor,adjust and evaluate leaning process effectively and thus improves their initiative and validity in learning.Although plentiful relative researches have been done by researchers abroad and at home,they focus on the theory aspect for the most part;the rest small part of empirical studies are inclined to concern the listening,speaking,reading and writing of foreign language learning with the college and junior school students as subjects mainly.This study aims to introduce self-monitoring strategy into high school students' English vocabulary learning so that their vocabulary learning efficiency can be increased.This research primarily explores three questions: 1.What's the condition of the high school students' application of self-monitoring strategy in English vocabulary learning? 2.What are the personal factors influencing high school students' self-monitoring strategy application in English vocabulary learning? 3.Can self-monitoring strategy improve high school students' English vocabulary learning efficiency?To deal with the three questions,two classes are selected from the whole senior grade one of the Middle School where the author is teaching to be the experimental class and control class respectively according to their most closed scores in the pre-test.Then the experimental class is trained with the self-monitoring strategy of vocabulary learning for a period of 12 weeks.The quantitative statistics of the experiment is from the questionnaire and vocabulary tests and it is analyzed by the software SPSS 19.0 while the qualitative statistics from the semi-structured interview.On the basis of data analysis,the researcher produces the experiment results: 1.High school students' self-monitoring strategy application capacity in English vocabulary learning is not high;besides,their self-monitoring strategy application turns up structure distinction in eight dimensions.2.Motivation,self-efficacy and attribution are the main personal factors influencing self-monitoring application.3.Self-monitoring strategy can improve high school students' English vocabulary learning efficiently.
