In primary school,it is always important and difficult point for students to learn English tenses.Pupils are so young that they have not formed abstract thinking.It is difficult for them to master and use English tense.English class under the traditional teaching mode neglects students' initiative and students tend to feel that learning English is boring.In the class under the student-centered mode,students are the center and their learning interests are stimulated.Therefore,the author of this thesis will introduce the student-centered mode into English tense teaching in primary school and try to find the effective ways which can help students improve their English tense learning.Based on the Affective Filter Hypothesis and Carl Rogers' Theory on Humanism this study aims to answer the following questions.1.Is it feasible to apply the student-centered mode to English tense teaching in primary schools? 2.How much do the students improve their English tense learning through the student-centered mode?This research lasts four months and 80 students from grade five take part in it.The students are divided into experimental class and control class.The student-centered mode is used in the experimental class and the traditional teaching mode is used in the control class.The experimental data is collected by using questionnaires,interview and tests.The results of the experiment show that it is feasible to apply the student-centered mode to English tense teaching in primary schools.Students from the experimental class master English tense better,while there is no significant difference in the control class.This study may help provide some enlightenment for front line teachers,help them change their traditional teaching theories and encourage them to create a lively and harmonious classroom atmosphere.Because the time and the subjects are limited,there are still some limitations in this study which need to be improved in the future teaching practice.
