Mind map, an effective visual and photographical mind tool, which expresses radiant thinking, presents and spreads information in form of pictures and words by applying comprehensively sign, color, picture, words, etc, and makes left and right brain process information positively, and is called as the master key to human mind.English has become compulsory subject at every stage of education. And vocabulary learning is the basis of English study and the key to learning English well. It is worthwhile for English teacher to research how to design English vocabulary learning activity. This research explores English vocabulary learning activity design based on mind map in middle school and verifies the practicability of combination between mind map and English vocabulary activity design.This thesis, firstly, reviews the related concepts and the literature about English vocabulary learning activity design and finds few researchers study English vocabulary learning activity design based on mind mapping in middle school and researches the related theories—constructivism learning theory and the theory of knowledge visualization, which lay the theoretical foundation for the integration between the mind mapping and the English vocabulary learning activity design;Secondly, knows about and analyzes the current situation of English vocabulary learning activity design by means of questionnaire survey and interviewing, and discovers its defects and does cause analysis to the defects. Then, basing on the theories, status survey and the characteristics of mind map, puts forward the principles of designing English vocabulary activities and illuminates preparation of designing and states the designing steps which mainly include four parts: lead-in,draw vocabulary mind map by teacher together with students, draw vocabulary mind map by group or individually, exchanges and shares works. Finally, selects cases and analyzes the effect of case study.Based on one semester's practical research and case study, the thesis has drawn the following conclusions:(1) English vocabulary learning activity based on the application of mind map can arouse student's interest and motivation to learn vocabulary, improve activeness and positivity to do vocabulary learning, inspirestudents to cultivate radiant thinking, and enhance vocabulary learning's effectiveness.(2) English vocabulary learning activity based on the application of mind map is helpful for student to change single vocabulary learning strategy and can enrich the way to learn words. The process of drawing vocabulary mind map is actually that of seeking for connection among words. Therefore, it can change the previous way of mechanical memory.(3) English vocabulary learning activity based on the application of mind map can also enrich the designing strategy of vocabulary learning activity. It is helpful for teachers to learn to apply mind map to vocabulary learning activity designing or other projects.
