Vocabulary functions as foundation of English learning.Students' abilities, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing, are directly and greatly influenced by their vocabulary.According to Senior High School English Curriculum Standards, students should meet the standard of words and phrases from three thousand and three hundred to four thousand and five hundred. It is a common phenomenon that many senior high students spend a lot of time learning English but often get little reward. Thus, many scholars believe that this is due to their limited vocabulary and learning strategies. But they seldom relate vocabulary learning strategies to reflective learning. With the guidance of my supervisor,my thesis mainly concentrates on reflective learning and its influence on senior high school students' English vocabulary learning strategies. The thesis is aimed at finding out whether the combination of vocabulary learning with English vocabulary learning strategies will definitely improve students' vocabulary problems.Subjects of the investigation are students from a senior high school in Danyang, among whom Class 1 is control class while Class 3 is experimental class. The research begins in March and ends in June,2016.Learning strategies mentioned in the thesis are meta-cognitive strategies, cognitive strategies and social/affective strategies.Questionnaires and vocabulary test papers are adapted from O'Malley & Chamot. The author mainly concentrates on three questions: First, problems of traditional vocabulary learning strategies;Second, ways to apply reflective learning to vocabulary learning strategies;Third, influences of reflective learning on senior high students' English vocabulary learning strategies. The findings are as follows:? The traditional vocabulary learning strategies are of simple patterns with no internal connections.Students' mechanical memory can hardly meet the standard of Senior High School English Curriculum Standards.? The combination of reflective learning theories with vocabulary learning strategies will definitely promote students' performance.? Reflective learning can facilitate senior high school students' English vocabulary learning strategies and produce positive effects. Both teachers and students need to find approaches to update their strategies and ideas aimed at promoting themselves.
