Cultural teaching and language teaching are inseparable, so cultural teaching can be a part of English teaching. However, there are a lot of problems in the current English teaching, especially in the cultural teaching in the reading class. In order to resolve the current problem on culture teaching in high school’s reading class, this study is to build a cultural teaching mode which is based on the schema theory. This study uses culture introduction in the pre-reading part, cultural infiltration in the while-reading part and cultural proceeding in the post-reading part to create and enrich constantly, and activate and consolidate the contents of the student’s mind. This study focuses on three issues. First, whether the cultural teaching mode can mobilize the students’ reading autonomy? Second, whether the application of cultural teaching mode in high school’s reading class can improve students’ reading comprehension ability? Third, is it feasible to the application of cultural teaching mode in high school’s reading class?In order to activate the schema in the pre-reading stage on cultural introduction, through brainstorming, prediction and rational use of multimedia resources and the like, the schema gives full play to the function of prediction in the reading process. In order to deepen the schema in the while-reading stage, by skimming, scanning and the cultural connotation of vocabulary learning in the close reading, the schema plays an important role in the functions of information processing. In order to consolidate the schema in the post-reading stage, through summary writing, debate and role play, the schema gives full play to the function of organizational memory.Through the questionnaire survey, the analysis of the results of the cultural knowledge test and the time limit reading comprehension, the study verifies the role of cultural teaching in English reading comprehension in senior high school. First,the cultural teaching mode can mobilize the students’ reading autonomy. Second, the cultural teaching mode can improve the reading comprehension ability of senior high school students. Third, it is feasible to the application of cultural teaching mode in high school’s reading class.
