Listening plays a fundamental role in the four basic skills of English. But the limited time of listening training, the decline of students' listening proficiency level, the complexity of listening itself and other factors lead to students' poor performance in listening tests. So it is necessary to seek an effective method that facilitates students' listening comprehension.The idea of advanced organizer was firstly put forward by the American psychologist Ausubel in 1960. It can build up a bridge between the knowledge already learned and the knowledge to be learned and facilitate students' study. Many researchers paid their attention to the effects of different types of advanced organizers on learners' listening comprehension in previous studies, but few researchers explored the influence of advanced organizers on the learners of different listening proficiency levels. And students' attitudes toward advanced organizer have not been explained well yet.This study aimed to explore the following questions:(1) Is there any difference in the listening scores between vocabulary advanced organizer group and the control group? (2)Is there any difference among the scores of three listening proficiency level groups after using vocabulary advanced organizer? (3) What are students' attitudes toward vocabulary advanced organizer?84 junior high school students from Fuzhou, Fujian Province participated in this study. And they were divided into two groups:the vocabulary advanced organizer group and the control group. Vocabulary advanced organizer was chosen as experiment tool to test its effect on students' listening comprehension.All the collected data were analyzed with SPSS. The statistical results are as follows: (1) There is significant difference in the listening scores between vocabulary advanced organizer group and the control group. That is, vocabulary advanced organizer can facilitate students' listening comprehension. (2) The difference in the scores of three listening proficiency level groups after using vocabulary advanced organizer is nonsignificant. In other words, the students at low-level listening proficiency group can reach medium or even high-level after using vocabulary advanced organizer. (3)The students show positive attitude toward vocabulary advanced organizer.The research revealed the effect of using vocabulary advanced organizer on junior high school students'listening comprehension, and it also gave some suggestions on English listening teaching.
