Through the related studies about language anxiety, most of language researchersand experts consider anxiety as one of the most important variable emotions andbelieve that English learning anxiety has a great effect on English learning. However,for the four skills including listening, speaking, reading as well as writing, researcheson English learning anxiety is mostly focused on the anxiety of English speaking.During the studies on English listening anxiety, the subjects are basically collegestudents and higher vocational school students and studies on the English listeninganxiety of middle school students, especially junior students, are relatively few.Therefore, this thesis focuses on the study of junior students’ listening anxiety, in anattempt to find out the present situation of junior students’ listening anxiety, explorethe ways to reduce junior students’ anxiety in listening comprehension and improve theteaching quality of junior English.The author carried out this research through a questionnaire study and used SPSS15.0(Statistical Product and Service Solutions) to analyze these data. At the same time,combined with the interview and observation, the author had grasped the presentsituation about some junior students’ listening comprehension anxiety. By usingquantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to investigate the listening comprehensionanxiety of students in junior middle school, the author got some findings. Firstly, there exists anxiety in junior students’ listening comprehension process. Secondly, throughthe investigation, the author finds that the major sources of listening anxiety stemsfrom nervousness in English listening, lack of confidence, lack of background listeningknowledge, poor English proficiency and the influence of the English teacher etc.Thirdly, junior students use avoidance to cope with listening anxiety and do not knowhow to adjust themselves and reduce listening anxiety.According to the results of the study, the author puts forward some methods tohelp reduce junior students’ listening anxiety. For example, helping junior students toset up confidence, strengthening junior students’ listening motivation, creatingenvironment to cultivate junior students’ listening habits, paying attention to thelistening skills in order to improve junior students’ listening efficiency, using variousof evaluation ways.
