During the course of improving students' comprehensive language application and English learning abilities, reading is considered to be the most important.Through reading, readers will obtain the information included, strengthen their English learning ability and apply it.In this situation, many researchers try to use different methods, models and theories in the English reading teaching. Therefore, the core of the English teaching in senior high schools is reading teaching in order to strengthen the students' reading ability and raise students' overall English scoreScaffolding Instruction, based on the concept of constructivism, was put forward by American educationalist Jerome Bruner in 1970 s.Twenty years later, more attention is gradually paid to applying Scaffolding Theory in English reading teaching.Scaffolding Instruction is based on the theory of the “Zone of Proximal Development” which was created by famous Soviet Union psychologist Vygotsky. It consists of five steps, which are providing scaffolds, entering the situation, independent explorations, collaborative learning and application of evaluation.Through these five steps, learners will learn and apply knowledge.According to Scaffolding Theory, the author explores the application of the Scaffolding Instruction to the English reading teaching in senior high schoolsThis paper intends to the apply the Scaffolding Instruction to the English reading teaching in senior high schools to explore whether it can stimulate students' interest in English learning, strengthen students' English reading ability and eventually raise students' overall English score.in September,2015,in order to complete the task, the author carried out a 12-week experiment and selected two parallel classes of Grade 2 from Yichun No.1 Middle School as control class and experiment class. The author collected data by the means of scientific tools and analyzed data by using SPSS to study the feasibility of apply Scaffolding Instruction in senior high school English reading class. The results show that in senior reading class, teachers can apply Scaffolding Instruction to improve students' reading interests,to enhance the students' reading proficiency and eventually increase their overall English score. However,no teaching method is perfect. The author also points out the limitations of the research and gives some advice for future researches.
