English writing is a very important language skill for English learners.Generally speaking,the students enrolled in secondary vocational school have pool foundation of English,especially writing skills.English teachers in secondary vocational schools are faced with many difficulties.So to find an effective way of writing teaching and promote the development of vocational schools' teaching have become more crucial than ever.The process-genre approach is an integration of three approaches of writing teaching: product approach,process approach and genre approach.Its fundamental principle of writing is that writing is essentially a kind of behavior that is controlled by social context.Its purpose is communication.The process genre approach consists of several steps,such as explaining essay genre,organization,group imitation and group interaction.Research has shown that the process-genre approach arouses students' interest in learning English and enables students to have a full input and the output of writing.By analyzing the students,teachers,textbook,and the teaching methods,the author makes the research plan.In the thesis two hypotheses are put forward.First,If the teachers use the process-genre approach to English writing class,the students' interest will be able to be improved in English writing in the secondary vocational school.Second,If the teachers take the process-genre approach to English writing class,the students' writing ability will be improved in the secondary vocational school.In order to verify the experimental results,the writer makes a teaching experiment in two parallel classes for a semester.The process-genre writing teaching approach is used in the experimental class(the tourism major class),and the traditional teaching approaches used in the Contrast class(the hotel major class).This experiment consists of a students' writing ability test,a questionnaire,and an interview.The factors that influence the student's writing ability are evaluated.The research points out that the process-genre approach has changed the attitude and strategy of the students in their English writing,and the students' interest has been stimulated;the research also points out that the process-genre approach has improved the students' writing ability,but the teacher should make more efforts than ever in the teaching of writing.The teaching design of English writing classes should take into consideration vocational schools' special background.The author puts forward some suggestions of the teaching writing for the students and the teachers,and reflects on the limitations and inadequacies of the study.It is the writer's humble hope that this research can be of some help to the improvement of secondary vocational school's English teaching of writing.
