English writing is a significant activity that propels the combination of input and output oflanguage at the same time of promoting the development of other language skills. It showsspecial importance for professional schools that aim to cultivate professional people for thesociety. However, based on observation and investigation, it is found that teaching of Englishwriting is unsatisfying in professional schools. Reasons for the situation are the lack of learners'interest, language storage or effective teaching methods. In this sense, it is difficult forprofessional schools and teachers to enhance the writing ability of students. Out of this situation,the study tries to apply process genre writing approach to professional education. The approachwas come up with by Badger&White in2000and is expected to enhance students' writingability.This research is an empirical study based on process genre approach, previous study,investigation about teaching situation before experiment and other related theories; it aims toconstruct realistic teaching model coping with present situation. There are all in all four stages inthe model: pre-writing input, analyses of genres, independent writing and revising and rethinking.The research is carried out in some professional school of Jining city. The four-monthexperiment contains reasonable design and it is done in two classes according to experimentdesign. Experimental group receives process genre approach and control group original approach.Data is collected by means of interview, questionnaire and tests about writing. Through theobservation and discussion of data, it is found out that experimental group gets higher scoresthan control group on average after the experiment; experimental group is more capable in thelexical aspect, course, logic, content and other aspect relating to writing skills. Beyond that, it isalso illustrated that students of experiment group have more positive response to the newapproach and show much more interest in the changes brought about by the approach. Thus itcan be concluded that genre process approach is an effective way to help students enhancewriting ability and increase their confidence in writing; genre process approach have beneficialinfluences on students' attitude and interest; genre process approach can also strengthen students'ability of language application.It is unavoidable that every experiment is not perfect due to the matter of subjects andexperiment period. However, the experiment achieved satisfying outcomes and it shows aparadigm of how to apply genre process approach in professional education. Generally speaking,the experiment with its results is useful for further research.
